Client: Sisu Youth Services Inc.
Faculty Advisor: Christopher Loofs
Sponsors: Gibbs Design in Action Award, The OU Division of Architecture

Three students from the OU Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture—Emma Eitzen, Jordan Hughes, and Gracie Kimbrell—designed and built a temporary shade pavilion for Sisu Youth Services in Oklahoma City as part of the Gibbs Design in Action Award, a grant program supporting student-led community projects. Guided by faculty advisor Christopher Loofs, the students worked closely with Sisu and the surrounding community to transform an unused lot into a welcoming gathering space. The pavilion provides much-needed shade and creates a safe, designated area for Sisu’s youth, addressing concerns from neighbors and fostering a stronger sense of belonging.

Completed in April 2025, the project represents a stepping stone toward Sisu’s goal of constructing a permanent facility. For the students, the experience offered hands-on lessons in design, construction, and community engagement. Beyond its functional role, the pavilion sparked conversations about youth homelessness and inspired community support, showing how small-scale, thoughtful design interventions can make a meaningful impact.
